Greetings!

Today as I finally am able to sit down and write this newsletter it is sunny and 60 degrees! I am already starting to plan my backyard organic garden and excited to plant beets this year. I've kind of shied away from the root veggies since I haven't gotten great results previously I am encouraged since my husband just bought a new juicer and visions of fresh carrot and beet juice are dancing around my little head.

The focus of this month's newsletter is Weight management. In the past I have counseled my patients who wanted to lose weight to increase protein, and decrease carbs. While this is true until now I never had a comprehensive system in place to help my patients achieve their weight loss goals. I now am introducing into my practice the Ultra Lite Weight Loss system. Scientists Reveal Mechanism between High -Fat, Diabetes Link

New research explains the mechanism behind the widely recognized link between a high-fat diet and type 2 diabetes, providing an insight into how high-fat diet-induced diabetes may be prevented. Sugar and Cancer

The average American consumes an astounding 2-3 pounds of sugar each week, which is not surprising considering that highly refined sugars in the forms of sucrose (table sugar), dextrose (corn sugar), and high- fructose corn syrup are being processed into so many foods such as bread, breakfast cereal, mayonnaise, peanut butter, ketchup, spaghetti sauce, and a plethora of microwave meals. Large UK Study Reaffirms Body Fat - Cancer Link

Experts at the American Institute for Cancer Resarch (AICR) welcomed new results from a British study that links excess body fat to several cancers.

"This new analysis falls closely in line with the conclusions of AICR's comprehensive expert report, Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity and the Prevention of Cancer: A Global Perspective," said AICR Nutritionist Sarah Wally, RD. "The expert panel who wrote that report reviewed hundreds of studies and determined that staying lean may be the most important thing we can do to protect against cancer. Today's results bear that conclusion out." From Medical News Today


Daily Glass of Beet Juice can Beat High Blood Pressure, Study Shows

With beets in my garden I thought of including this interesting tidbit about the health benefits of beet juice. An added clove or 2 or 3 would I think, enhance the blood pressure lowering effect . Drink up!!

ScienceDaily (Feb. 6, 2008) - Researchers at Barts and The London School of Medicine have discovered that drinking just 500ml of beetroot juice a day can significantly reduce blood pressure. The study could have major implications for the treatment of cardiovascular disease. From Science Daily
